2020: New Year, No Fear




First, let me start by saying HAPPY NEW YEAR!


Seriously,


I don’t know what it is about January 1st. Every year it feels like something in my brain automatically hits the reset button, and boom, I’m ready to lunge forward into the year! Its so weird, December 31st, I’m a lazy couch potato; January 1st, I’m the unstoppable Queen of the world! Anyway, I wanted to start the new year off right! What better way than sharing my New Years Eve and New Year routines & recommendations for you guys.


I have a few things I do each New Year that have made their way into the "tradition" category:


#1. I go to church. For Christians, we have a service where we praise, worship, snot, scream, hug and "tell" our neighbor all the way into the New Year. We call this "Watch Night Service".


#2. I write a list of goals I have for the New Year, write myself a motivational letter and make a vision board.


#3. I make collard greens and black-eyed peas

*Disclaimer: (Now, I'm not sure if this really sets the stage to bring money into my new year, but hey, it doesn’t hurt anyone to do it and it taste good!)...Win, Win!



As we welcome the New Year, these are my 5 tips for getting your year started off right:



#1. Write it out

📝 🖊Put the pen to the paper and write down those goals. This is a great place to begin. I say make it fun by buying a new notebook, fun pens and stickers. Get as creative as possible! In doing this you want to not only write the goal, but write down at least 3-10 action steps you can use to help you actually reach the goal.

With writing goals, remember that less can be more. It’s not about having a million goals written down, rather having a realistic amount of goals that can actually be achieved. These are my planners of choice for the year; well at least for now, I'm always switching up my planners & notebooks. The multi-color book was a $3 Target find and the other I randomly found at Ross. This year, I thought it would be better to use a smaller vision board style inside my notebook, so that my goals would always be visible. I'm still working on it.





#2: Create a new look ✂️ 💄

Ladies, we all love a new look, don’t we? There’s no better feeling than putting on that new outfit or wearing a newly purchased red lipstick from MAC, Sephora or Ulta. I say, take it a step further. Whatever that new hairstyle you’ve been eyeballing, go get it done! Cut it, Braid it, Curl it, Color it, whatever! JUST DO IT! If you are on a tight budget and can't afford to pay someone to do your hair or make-up, YouTube has so much information on DIY and tutorials that will still have you poppin'... Okay? Good!



#3: Grab a book: 📚

We all love Barnes & Nobles. Shoot, sometimes I spend hours there! In the era where everything is online, I still find pleasure in taking a trip there and looking through some books. Pick at least 1 book you feel falls in line with your vision for 2020 and make that the first book you read.

For example, if one of your goals is finanacial and credit literacy, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get a book by Dave Ramsey.


I selected my current book of choice before the new year, but haven't had the chance to read it. It's just an Aries thing. Our minds are full of open tabs. At any given time, I can be in the middle of reading at least 5 books. However, I am working on being more intentional about finishing the books I start. My recommendation would be:

Small Doses: Potent Truths for Everyday Use by my absolute fave, Amanda Seales. Go cop one!




#4. A night on the town, shall we? ✨🌃

Has the previous year had you so busy you haven’t really had time to link with your friends and family? I get it! We all wear so many hats, and many times after a long day, all we want to do is binge watch our favorite Netflix show. Even with all the things we have going on, it is always a good time to reconnect. Call or text a friend or friends that you haven’t seen or hung out with for a while, and set up a date. Yes, select a date! When you don’t set an actual date up, it’s very easy to just not commit. So to my friends, look out for a lets link text, can't wait to catch up with y'all!



#5. Travel 🌍

At this moment you may be thinking, “the way my account it set up” *(Kevin Hart voice). Traveling can be expensive. BUT, if you plan with intent, it is feasible. Pick a place on your bucket list to travel and map out the way you can get there. Even if you can’t get there until December, at least you have a solid plan. I personally try to get at least 2-3 trips in each year, contingent on my available days off. Finally, I leave you with this…

The New Year is not a time for beating yourself up about what you could have done better the previous year or feeling like you can’t change things for the upcoming year! It’s about understanding that with each new second God gives you, you can improve and work hard towards living the life you want to live. It will take discipline, focus, hard work and sacrifice, but you can do it! Whatever you decide to do, be sure that you are doing it solely to better yourself.


Whatever kind of year you want to have in 2020, you can manifest it! HAVE NO FEAR & WALK IN FAITH! Start now by actually speaking what you want out loud! You have the power to speak over your own life; ACTIVATE IT!
